Oceanic Taekwon-Do Invitational Championship 2002

In March 2002, Mr. Daniel Sng (5th Dan) led a team of four Island Taekwondo members, Jonathan Sun (2nd Dan), Wilson Khoo (2nd Dan), Dinesh Rengaragoo (1st Dan) and Jasmine Lee (1st Gup) to an Umpire Course (23rd March) and the Oceanic Taekwon-Do Invitational Championship (24th March) in Canberra. The venue was the Australian Institute of Sport Basketball Centre. The course was conducted by Master Leong Wai Meng (8th Dan). Master Leong briefed the students about the attire of the umpires, official tournament ring sizes, introduced Korean commands used by referees in an actual ITF tournament and taught the attendants the facilitation of a sparring/pattern competition. The course lasted for approximately 8 hours.

 

The following day on The 24th of March, all four members Jonathan Sun (2nd Dan), Wilson Khoo (2nd Dan), Dinesh Rengaragoo (1st Dan) and Jasmine Lee (1st Gup) took part in the first 2002 Oceanic Taekwondo Federation Invitational Championships held at the Australian Institute of Sport Basketball Centre. The team won nine medals (1 Gold, 2 Silver and 6 Bronze).
